Getting Around

Paddle by BusValleyMetro-logo
Self shuttle via Valley Metro (bus), the region’s public transportation service provider. Paddler should be sure to carry a lock or other means of securing boat at access location. See the Map page for Paddle by Bus instructions.

Blueway by Bike 
The Regional Interactive Bicycle Map provides information area bicycle accommodations, greenways and trails, and alternative transportation amenities available to facilitate use of the Roanoke River Blueway and adjacent Roanoke River Greenway. Uber
Uber service is available in the greater Roanoke area and offers shuttle options for numerous segments of the Roanoke River Blueway. Note: Paddlers should contact the Uber driver prior to trip to ensure vehicle and  is suitable for transporting canoe/kayak and carry all items needed for transport back to upstream starting access point.

Overnight camping is available at Dixie Caverns located near the Roanoke River Blueway Wayside Access. All camp sites have electric, water, and free Wi-Fi  internet, and a bath house. Dixie Caverns is open 7 days per week, year round.

Overnight camping is available at River’s Edge Sports Complex during the annual GOFest. River’s Edge Sports Complex is located adjacent to the Roanoke River Blueway in the City of Roanoke.
